“It was a great marriage, marked by actions that surpassed anything I had experienced before. Vera did things that surprised me,” he said.
When questioned about who initiated the relationship, Mauzo preferred that people not focus on that aspect.
“I prefer not to delve into the specifics of how our love story began, as I want to maintain a positive perspective on her side. As long as we were okay, that is what matter. At the time, our relationship began, she resided in Mombasa,” he recalled.
Mauzo recognises Vera’s special moments and love, including her decision to convert to Islam to align with his religious beliefs.
“One day, she called me expressing her desire to convert to Islam saying she wanted us to be a Muslim couple. This was a significant sacrifice she made for the sake of our relationship and I gave in,” he said.

Mauzo said Vera converted, adopting a Muslim name, Zara.
“This gesture deeply touched my heart, and I realized the sincerity behind her intention in our relationship, although initially, I had reservations, suspecting it might be for publicity,” he told Nairobi News.
At that time, Mauzo said he was navigating the challenges of another relationship on the brink of divorce.
Despite the complexities, he said he decided to enter a relationship with Vera.
“The introduction of the religious aspect made me take our connection seriously.”
Mauzo said piled issues broke their relationship, “with attempts to sit down and address our issues being futile. We tried to salvage the marriage, but unfortunately, those discussions didn’t lead to a resolution. Concurrently, numerous factors played a role in the marriage breakdown,” he said.
