Has Eric Omondi really ‘opened’ a new club? Or is he just an influencer?

By Winnie Onyando September 2nd, 2022 2 min read

Kenyan comedian, Eric Omondi has allegedly ‘opened’ a new club, which he says is part of his investment.

Taking the new venture into his social media page, the comedian revealed that he has purchased Maxy’s Lounge and asked for his friend’s support on his new venture.

Maxy’s Lounge is located along Enterprise Road, opposite Equity Bank, in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.

Things are not adding up

However, the official social media handles of the club do not have any communication about the change of ownership or management.

It could be that Eric has been contracted to push the club as an influencer and to create buzz he “claimed ownership of the club”.

Based on its communication online, the club has been in operation since 2021. And Eric being selected to talk it up is a move to get a younger clientele to flock to the establishment.

The comedian said that he does not want to end up begging like other celebrities and that is why he has decided to invest in running the lounge and restaurant.

The club is said to be worth Sh18 million.

“Today I have started a new journey as a club owner. I ask for your support as friends, fans, supporters and family in this new Venture,” said Eric Omondi.

On the other hand, the ‘diva’ also said that it will take him 35 days to refurbish the club and make it the best of the best.

“We will be renovating for 35 days in preparation for our official launch in October. This will be Nairobi’s hottest entertainment spot,” added the comedian.

Eric’s female alter ego, Divalicious

This comes a few weeks after the celebrated comedian launched a Divalicious Show which has attracted more than 550 thousand subscribers.

The Divalicious Show will be launched as the official brand ambassador for Nara Luxury Africa.

“If you look at the caption I placed alongside the video, it is not only Divalicious who has been contracted but also Eric Omondi, who will be the host of the event, meaning the company is paying Omondi and Divalicious separately. As everyone is giving their opinions about me, I am making money,” commented Eric.

Why Eric’s creative’s hub was shut down

A year ago, he also launched Eric Omondi studios and his company, Big Tyme Entertainment Offices to help other content creators showcase their talent.

During the launch, he admitted that providing a platform for all creatives across the region was a long-term dream he has fulfilled.

Omondi said that the studio will offer quality audio and video productions for all creatives, be it musicians, artists, comedians or actors.

He also launched an audio studio named after his ‘father’ Comedian Churchill.

He invested in six vintage classic cars and an aircraft for artists to use in video shoots, situated at Mama Kayai Park.

However, the creative hub was closed down after residents of Lavington called on NMS to withhold the licencing of the business in the residential neighbourhood.
