Jeremiah Kioni: Mt Kenya region in fear over constant harassment of Uhuru

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has stated that the recent move from the Kenya Kwanza administration against the former President Uhuru Kenyatta has left Mt Kenya residents with many questions.

Mr Kioni claimed that Mt Kenya residents were shocked to see former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s security being withdrawn by the government.

“The amount of fear that is in Mt Kenya, in fact the region that is holding us from this constitutional moment now is Mt Kenya. The fear that I saw in them yesterday in their eyes, their postures is unbelievable. They also never thought that Uhuru can start being arrested,” Mr Kioni said in a radio interview on SpiceFM on Monday.

He stated that the region never thought that under the current leadership, the police officers in plain clothes would be shooting innocent Kenyans in peaceful demonstrations. He said if the trend continues, it will attract opposition from the region.

“If they continue with this issue about Uhuru Kenyatta, they are going to see the things that they have never seen from some of us,” he said.

Mr Kioni said the government is wrong in harassing the former President and his family, a case that was not seen before.

He said that the handshake between Mr Kenyatta and ODM leader Mr Raila Odinga in the last regime was not about slowing down the opposition but to bring solutions to issues that the country faces after every general election.

“The issue of handshake was to help ameliorate some of these issues because the difficulty that we are in as a country are difficulties that we must face the all of us together.”

On the ongoing arrests of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition’s leaders, Kioni said President William Ruto’s regime has taken the country back to the dark era, saying he had to switch off his phone for three days to avoid getting arrested.

He also said the Azimio side is not interested in power sharing, as alleged by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
