Tanzania census shows country has more women
Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced the 2022 Census Report, revealing the population of the East African country at 61,741,120.
President Suluhu said figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), show 59,851,357 are living in Tanzania’s mainland, while 1,889,773 are in Tanzania Zanzibar.
The president added the population of women is 31,687,990, which is 51 percent of the total population.
Men are 30,530,130 representing 49 percent of the total population.
“Tunaposema wanawake ni jeshi kubwa, wanawake ni jeshi kubwa (when we say that women are a big army, indeed they are an army),” the Head of State pointed out.
The President pointed out that the report will be useful to the government in its plans, including creating job opportunities.
President Samia said the country’s capital city Dar es Salaam is the most populated town with 5,383,728 people, which is 8.7 percent of the country’s population.
Mwanza is the second largest populated town with 3,669,872, which is 6 percent of the population.
This comes as the UN predictions placed Tanzania’s population among the world’s eight fastest-growing countries over the next three decades.
Tanzania, therefore, becomes the leading populated nation in the East Africa Community, followed by Kenya which has a population of 54.99 million people, and Uganda becomes third with 47.12 million people.
Also, the President said that the country has a total of 14,348,372 buildings, out of which 13,907,951 are in the mainland while 440, 421 are in Zanzibar.
At the same time, the President has asked local authorities to use the census report to plan its strategy going forward.
The households and the percentage of employment in the country is expected to be shared in the National Bureau of Statistics website.
