Mr. Kenyatta was against President Ruto, his former deputy to be elected as his successor, ending up supporting the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Mr. Raila Odinga, who was defeated on the ballot.

Even after the defeat, Mr. Kenyatta insisted that Mr. Odinga would still be his leader.

On the other side, President Ruto assured his immediate predecessor that he would ensure his retirement benefits were well dispatched.

He also said he would ensure that the opposition team is playing its role of keeping the government on its toes.
