Museveni: I have asked Muhoozi to quit Twitter
On Monday, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni announced that he asked his son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to leave the bird app and avoid posting on state affairs.
President Museveni said in an interview, “He will leave Twitter. We have this discussion. Twitter is not a problem. The problem is what you are tweeting about.”
Adding that Muhoozi would still be able to take to social media as long as he restricts himself to comments about sport, for example, President Museveni added, “Talking about other countries and partisan politics of Uganda is something he should not do and he will not do it.”

The directive comes when Museveni, 78, was questioned about promoting his wild son after causing a diplomatic tiff between Kenya and Uganda.
In his response, Museveni said that Muhoozi is a good leader with flaws.
“My son Muhoozi is a good general, though the army has all sorts of problems, corruption.
If somebody is good at something and makes a mistake somewhere else, how do you handle it?
In our experience, you might not get people 100 percent correct. If they have made 20 percent mistake and 80 percent contribution, that is how you handle.”
Early this month, Muhoozi had a Twitter meltdown where he threatened to capture Nairobi within two weeks.

He started by blaming retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he referred to as his ‘big brother’ for not contesting for a third term in the August 2022 polls, adding the retired president could have easily won the election, Muhoozi wrote, “My only problem with my big brother is that he did not stand for a third term. We would have won easily.”
With former president Kenyatta barred by the Kenyan constitution from contesting for a third term, Muhoozi went on to sensationally claim on the same platform that he needed a fortnight to topple President Ruto’s government.
“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi.”
These tweets caused diplomatic unease between the two countries.
Top government officials from both countries met and discussed Muhoozi’s controversial tweets.
His father then apologized to Kenyans, saying, “It is not correct for Public officers, be they civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way, in the internal affairs of brother countries.
The only legitimate forum is the Peer Review Mechanism of the African Union or confidential interactions among us or EAC and AU fora – not public comments.”

However, Muhoozi apologized to President Ruto last week, saying, “I have never had any problem with Afande Ruto. If I made a mistake anywhere, I ask him to forgive me as his young brother. God bless East Africa!”
