Boniface Mwangi ‘mourns’ friend who walked out of his life

By Winnie Mabel December 30th, 2022 2 min read

Kenyan human rights activist Boniface Mwangi took to social media on December 29, 2022, to “mourn” a friend who walked out of his life.

In his Facebook stories, Mwangi revealed that this person had left him a few weeks ago, and he had finally decided how he would mourn that friendship.

“I lost a friend that I valued and cared for deeply a few weeks ago. A special friend that I treasured and loved walked out of my life. My response was to dye my hair and mourn in silence. Men mourn in style! They hide their pain in plain sight,” said Boniface as he littered his post with laughs and sad emojis.

It is unclear who this friend is; he did not elaborate on what transpired that led to their falling out despite bringing his personal issues to social media.

His post came weeks after he announced that he would be taking a break from social media after being politically vocal for months in support of his closest friend, Honorable Martha Karua, who was the running mate to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance’s presidential candidate, Raila Amollo Odinga.

“I’m taking a long break from social media. A well-deserved break. I don’t intend to use Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for the next few months. If you know me, you know where to find me. Be kind to yourself. Love yourself, there is only one of you. Stay safe, I’m out,” posted Mwangi on November 26, 2022.

He never posted on social media until December 29, 2022, when he returned to lament over the end of the friendship with the unknown person.

In the same stories where he “mourned” this friend, Mwangi also posted several videos of himself hanging out at his Lukenya property with his family in his recently constructed large home where they were spending the holidays. He announced that he would host a lit New Year party full of music, dance and fireworks.
