“Mr Waithaka is believed to be the head of a gang behind the daylight armed robberies that have been reported in Kilimani and its environs, was arrested last evening at Makongeni in Nairobi’s Eastlands suburbs,” the DCI said.
Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had on Friday 09, night launched a manhunt for the suspect who Nairobi News reported had been jailed in the past for a period of six years.

Police say that on the day when the Greek national was killed, one of the robbers who had pounced on him took out a gun and shot at him before they took off on a motorbike.
Detectives also say that the same gang on September 29, 2022, carried out a separate incident where they accosted four Dutch tourists who were right outside the Silver Harbour Apartment along Kindaruma Road.
“They violently robbed them of their mobile phones, cash and jewellery before escaping towards Ngong Road on a motorbike, whose number plates were concealed,” the statement further read.

The DCI also shared CCTV footage that captured how the gang terrorized their victims and even shot in the air to scare off members of the public who had responded to the distress call by the besieged tourists.
“The Dutch tourists were waiting to board a tour van to Nairobi National Park when the thugs stuck in the 8 am incident,” the statement further revealed.
The series of incidents clearly showed they were being conducted by the same gang, forcing sleuths attached to the DCI to go after the suspects.
Mr Stephen Elavuna, 38, who police said worked in cohorts with Mr Waithaka was the first one to be nabbed and it has emerged that he has an ongoing case in court.
