Police detain ‘main suspect’ in murder of ex-Treasury employee Tom Osinde


Mr Julius Mogoi, the main suspect in the brutal murder of Mr Tom Osinde, an ex-staff at Treasury, has reportedly shared details of what transpired on June 18, 2023, when the deceased was reported missing, Nairobi News can now reveal.

A sleuth privy to the ongoing investigations and who spoke to Nairobi News in confidence says Mr Mogoi, who is considered the main suspect in the brutal murder of the tycoon, had shared some chilling details.

“The main suspect has been grilled for the last two days and shared crucial details especially on what happened on the day the deceased went missing,” the sleuth said.

The detective further said Mr Mogoi also confirmed he was the one who was driving the deceased’s vehicle on the day he was reported missing. The suspect has reportedly also confessed to driving the vehicle to his home in South Mugirango, Kisii County.

The long search for Mr Osinde ended on June 29, 2023, when his body was positively identified by members of his family in Migori County.

Police say it was retirieved from River Kuja.

Mr Peter Kimani, the Migori County police boss, said the body of the deceased has been lying in the Migori Referral Hospital for days.

Mr Osinde is the brother to Ken Osinde, also deceased. Mr Ken Osinde who passed on in 2021 until his death served as former Chief of Staff in the office of the former Deputy President William Ruto (now the President).

News of Mr Osinde’s was confirmed in a Facebook post by his brother Mr Nemwel Osinde who is based in the United States.

“Thank you friends for your outpouring of love, prayers and support during my brother’s search. Unfortunately, the outcome isn’t the one we anticipated. Tom was killed and his body was found in Migori County. Please continue praying for us as try to come to terms,” said Mr Nemwel Osinde.

Detectives investigating his murder have revealed that before Mr Osinde went missing, his black Land Cruiser V8 was seen leaving his home in Ngata, on June 17, 2023, and was being driven by a ‘mysterious person.’

The detectives later arrested two of his workers including Mr Mogoi the main suspect.

The farm manager identified as Mr Jacob Khaemba was not arrested.

At the same time the investigators mainly drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau(CRIB), also spent more than four hours, conducting a search and interrogating workers at his Nakuru home that sits on a ten acres’ expansive farm.
