Police in Nairobi are investigating an incident where a woman was assaulted by people well-known to her in what is believed to be a case of business rivalry.

Ms. Najma Mohamed was assaulted while inside her shop located in Eastleigh, Kamkunji Sub County in Nairobi, in what was captured in an amateur video.

In the video, the suspect, whose identity is yet to be released by the police, is seen hammering Ms. Mohamed, who can be heard screaming in pain as they struggle on the shop floor.

The amateur video captured for five minutes made rounds on social media on the evening of Sunday, October 18, 2022.

The matter is being investigated by sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) IN Starehe Sub-County.

According to the police, the video was taken by one of the suspect’s brothers before they all went into hiding.

However, the brother was nabbed, but the other four managed to escape the police dragnet.

The matter was reported at Eastleigh North police post and recorded under OB number 24/16/10/2022 by an officer identified as Corporal Kobia.

Ms. Mohamed, currently admitted at Nairobi East Hospital, said that she suspects she had been assaulted all because of business rivalry.

“I was at my place of work on Sunday like any other day and I was not aware of any plans to harm me. I believe that it was all due to business competition,” she said.

She runs a business adjacent to her rivals, which did not go well with the suspect.

She said that her business has been thriving because she related well with her customers, which was likely why she was assaulted.

Mr. Fredrick Abuga, the Starehe Sub-county police boss, told the media that a search for the four suspects had already been launched.

“Our officers have already kicked off a manhunt for the offenders who are currently at large. One is in custody as the matter is being investigated by detectives attached to the DCI,” he said, adding that he was sure it would be a matter of time before the others were arrested.
